Ep. 269: The Emotional Burden Of Your Clutter
from The Intentional Midlife Mom Podcast | Simple, Practical Life, Home & Mindset Solutions for Moms Over 40 · host Jennifer Roskamp, CLC
Send us Fan MailThere's a plastic bin in my basement that I have moved thirty-seven times. At least.I'm not exaggerating for effect. I could probably prove it if I tracked the number of times I've picked it up, looked at it, said "I need to deal with this," and then set it right back down in the exact same spot.Inside that bin are baby clothes. Not from my youngest, most are actually from my oldest. The onesies. The going-home outfit. A little hat that used to fit a head the size of a grapefruit and now belongs to a person who is taller than me and has her own house and children.I don't need those clothes. I'm not having any more babies in them. Nobody is asking me for them. And still, every single time I walk past that bin, something in me says, not yet.So today, I don't want to talk to you about how to declutter your house. You already know how decluttering works. You know about the three piles everyone talks a bout. Keep, donate, trash. If you’ve listened to me talk about clutter, you know the secret sauce of the “not now” pile. It’s a beautiful thing. But I know you…you've watched the shows. You've done the challenges. You've Marie Kondo'd your sock drawer and felt very accomplished for about eleven days. That's not the problem. The problem is that some of us have a bin. Or a closet. Or a drawer. Or an entire spare room. Full of things we cannot seem to make a decision about…no matter how many organizing systems we throw at it.And I think that's because the thing sitting in front of you isn't actually the problem. It might be evidence of the problem.Get some powerful mantras to inspire, encourage, and life you up when you need as little something intentional to focus on.
