EP 269: The Importance of Emotional Intelligence

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

Everything we do - every action, every thought - is motivated by our emotions. In the simplest form, our emotions push us towards what we want and away from what we don’t want. And right now, the emotions we’re experiencing, individually and collectively, are extremely powerful. This means that our emotions might be holding us back from showing up the way we want to for our family or community. Or our emotions might be pushing us to do things we don’t want to do or say things we don’t really want to say. Since our emotions play such a powerful role in our lives, it’s easy to see that understanding and regulating our emotions is a vital skill. This skill is called Emotional Intelligence. And it’s so important that a client of mine calls it a superpower. And like any other skill, Emotional Intelligence is trainable. If you’d like to learn how to train yourself in Emotional Intelligence, and gain the ability to show up for the world as a parent, as a neighbor, or as a colleague, just drop a comment below or send me an email ([email protected]).
