#Ep 27 Adam Buxton and Zoë Jeyes talking about "What Happened, Miss Simone"

from Flixwatcher: A Netflix Film Review Podcast · host Stripped Media

Hello from Episode 27! We’re joined by Dr Buckles himself Adam Buxton and Zoë Jeyes (producer of the London Podcast Festival) we review Adam’s choice the 2015 Netflix documentary What Happened Miss Simone? Where we and our guests also reveal our favourite music documentaries. The documentary combines previously unreleased archival footage and interviews with Simone's daughter and friends. While its a pretty standard documentary in terms of format, starting with her discovery and mentoring through to her early successes with I Loves You, Porgy and then her decline in the 1970s following her involvement in the civil rights movement. Scores [supsystic-tables id='29'] Scoring highly on recommendability but less so on the repeat viewing, overall it still scores a very respectable 3.8 (that’s really a 4!) If you’ve always liked Nina Simone, but don't really know much about her life or her lesser know songs - this is definitely for you. Filled with spellbinding performances, honest first-hand accounts the film charts the continuous problems and torment that seems to plague such talented artists without melodrama and cliches.
