EP 27: Black History Spotlight: How the welfare system destroyed the black community

from Grow Your Money Podcast · host Constance Carter

BLACK HISTORY TRUTH: THE “MAN IN THE HOUSE” RULE & THE BREAKDOWN OF THE BLACK FAMILY 🏡Did you know the U.S. government once forced Black fathers out of their own homes just so families could receive financial assistance?During the 1960s and 1970s, welfare programs had a rule that denied benefits to women if a man was living in the house—even if he was the father of her children. This meant thousands of Black families had to make a heartbreaking choice:💔 Stay together and struggle financially💔 OR separate so the mother and children could receive aidThis policy didn’t just hurt families in the moment—it created lasting damage that we STILL see today:❌ A rise in single-parent households❌ A stereotype of the “absent Black father”❌ Economic instability & generational povertyEven though the rule was eventually overturned, the damage was done. But here’s the truth: Black fathers are present, Black families are strong, and we are reclaiming our financial power.🚀 It’s time to break the cycle and build Black wealth through entrepreneurship, homeownership, and group economics. The past won’t hold us back—we are rewriting our future!✊🏾 Drop a 🔥 in the comments if you’re ready to build generational wealth!#BlackHistory #BlackFamiliesMatter #WealthBuilding #LegacyMoves Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/conversationswithconstance/donations
