In the book Walton discusses a different way of looking at Genesis one and how we ought to look at it as a recounting of ancient cosmology. It is a creation story told by God to an ancient culture IN an ancient culture. The ancient Jewish people did not view cosmology and creation stories in the same way as we as modern, scientific, materialists do and the difference is quite drastic. Walton discusses that in this book.This episode is meant as a recommendation of the book, not necessarily an endorsement of everything in the book. Dennis makes the point that we as Christians may not need to have uniformity on everything we believe about Genesis one and the creation story but we do need to have open minds about the possibility that we don't understand everything surrounding this issue.
