EP 283: How to Practice Pausing (And why it's so helpful)
from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” - Viktor E. Frankl Whenever we find ourselves looking back with regret on something we’ve said or done, it’s most often because we didn’t access this space that Viktor Frankl mentions in the quote above. As a result of missing this space, we miss our opportunity for growth and we surrender our freedom to the emotions we feel as a result of our reaction. One of the greatest tools we have to expand this valuable space and transform reaction into response is to simply pause. Of course, this is difficult to remember, as we have developed lifelong habits of reaction. So the best way to remember to pause is to make it a habit by repetitious practice. Would you like to learn some simple and easy practices to develop this habit for yourself?
