Ep. 29: Bluebird, Bluebird

from Read Around the Rosé · host Read Around the Rosé Podcast

Darren Matthews is the nephew of, William Matthews, the state's first black Texas Ranger. Inspired by his uncle, Darren followed in his footsteps with the ambition to take on race-based cases. Darren could have had an easier life, but the challenge to stick up for those who can't stick up for themselves was compelling. That's what lands Darren in Lark, Texas population 178. Two twin murders were heinously committed, and the sheriff's department chalked them up to drownings. Yet, why would a black man traveling to town wind up dead and then a local white girl a few days later? What is up with this small town, and what secrets does it have to reveal? Stay tuned this week as the Rosé Girls discuss Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke (book one of the Highway 59 series). This wonderful book will keep you on your feet and make you really question racism in East Texas. Black lives matter. Going forward, we, the Read Around The Rosé podcast, will make sure our book collection is more diverse. We 100% support the Black Lives Matter organized movement. Pour yourself a glass of your favorite... And we clink 🥂🖤
