In fact, all but one of my sister-in-laws went on to have their births with a licensed midwife after I had mine. It was inspiration for them and the narrative I naturally created around my birth was, "this is normal". Empowerment is a word you will hear me say over and over again because it's the only word I know that can possibly describe how all of my births have made me feel. Power was put into me through birthing my children. Inspiration, authorization, enablement, liberation, permission, and encouragement are all synonyms of the word. Choice, comfort and safety are issues you will not have to fight against when you are in your own home and in your own space. When choosing a home birth there is a measure of radical responsibility you are engaging in. You are taking responsibility for your choices, your body, your baby, your health, and your knowledge. Birthing outside of the medical system is God's original design. I don't believe we are intended to birth in the hospital with complete strangers, monitors, and management.
