EP 290: The Physical and Emotional Benefits of Forgiveness

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

Most people, understandably, view forgiveness as a form of weakness. Or they equate forgiveness with granting license to someone to harm us in some way. But the reality is that forgiveness is the opposite of weakness and it has nothing to do with another person's actions. In fact, forgiveness is an act of self-compassion. It is a means of releasing ourselves of the burden of resentment, anger, or vengeance we feel for another person as a result of something that has happened in the past. In other words, forgiveness is something we do for ourselves. Not for another. It is very closely tied to our stress levels and has enormous impact on our emotional and physical well being. As we practice compassion, for ourselves and for others, forgiveness becomes more readily available to us. And with it comes deeper connection to our children, our friends, and everyone else in our lives. If you’d like to learn more, please drop a comment below or send me a DM.
