Ep 3: I Ignored My Intuition… Then I Ended Up Handcuffed in the Back of a Cop Car

from BOLDLY ALIVE · host Courtney Bussard

Send us Fan Mail One year ago, I found myself handcuffed in the back of a cop car. Today, I’m celebrating one year sober. But my decision to stop drinking wasn’t really about alcohol being this huge problem in my life. The truth is, I had known for a while that drinking just wasn’t aligned for me anymore. Even a couple of drinks would mess with my sleep, affect my energy, and leave me feeling like...why am I still choosing this when I know I don’t even really want it? And alcohol wasn’t the only thing. There were other choices I was making that I knew weren’t aligned with my values or the person I wanted to be. My intuition was telling me that pretty freaking clearly—and I wasn’t listening. Then, just DAYS before I got arrested, I had one of the clearest intuitive hits I’ve ever experienced: if you keep doing what you’re doing, there are going to be consequences. And those consequences are going to be a DUI. A few days later, I saw red and blue lights in my rearview mirror. Eventually, I was sitting handcuffed in the back of a cop car thinking, Court...you knew. That night became a turning point for me. I decided I was done drinking alcohol. And now, one year into my sobriety journey, I can see that this experience was about SO much more than becoming alcohol-free. It was about learning to listen to myself. Trusting my intuition. Recognizing when something isn’t aligned with my values—and actually being willing to make a different choice. In this episode of Boldly Alive, I’m sharing the story of why I stopped drinking, what my first year without alcohol has taught me, and the wake-up call that changed the way I think about intuition, alignment, and the choices we make every single day. If you’ve ever had that feeling deep down that something in your life just isn’t right for you anymore, this episode is for you. Because sometimes we already freaking know. We just have to be willing to listen. If this episode resonates, I would love for you to send me a DM at @boldlyalivecourt and tell me what landed.
