Urokodaki explains the history of man-eating demons and the demon slayer corps--lead by a mysterious shadow ruler. With Nezuko in a coma, Tanjiro journals about the intense training he is undergoing. After a year of instruction, Urokodaki shows him a massive rock which must be cut in half in order to be eligible for final selection. He leaves after telling Tanjiro he can teach him nothing more. After 6 months of failed attempts, Sabito and Makomo, appear out of thin air to motivate and spar with Tanjiro. When he finally achieves success his two companions vanish as quickly as they appeared.
