Ep. 30 - Men’s Health: How You Can Design a Lifestyle That Prevents Prostate Cancer - with Dr. Ralph Esposito

from The Rebel Health Coach · host Thom Underwood

Dr. Ralph Esposito is a naturopathic physician, licensed acupuncturist and functional medicine practitioner specializing in Integrative Urology and Men's Health – AKA The Men’s Health Doctor.   Prostate health is an important topic that really needs to be addressed, but not enough people are talking about it and men often want to ignore it.   However, 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, so we can’t keep ignoring it.   Dr. Esposito describes prostate cancer as a “lifestyle cancer,” which means there are many lifestyle factors that can contribute to or prevent it. Factors such as smoking, obesity, and eating carcinogenic food (like grilled meats) can contribute to prostate cancer, while exercising, clean diets, getting adequate sleep, and managing your hormone levels can help prevent it.   So what can men do to keep their prostate healthy?   Begin with your diet. Research shows that a typical “Mediterranean diet” is ideal for the prostate, or a diet high in poly and monounsaturated fats like olive oil, nuts, seeds, and plant-based oils. Wheat and gluten, on the other hand, can be inflammatory. You also have to move! Men need 3-4 hours of intense exercise every week. You need 7-8 hours of sleep; “anything less than 6 is asking for trouble.” There are a few essential nutrients for prostate health: zinc, selenium, beta-Sitosterol, fish oil, tumeric, and vitamin D. -- Resources: Connect with Dr. Esposito: DoctorEspo.com | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube Do you want more to empower yourself through healthy living?
