Ep 30: Redesigning Mining's Workforce Across Borders
from ORE-ATORY: Elevating Mining Minds Hosted by Lindsey Schultz
👤 Gabriela Castro-Smith, President of Trade in Motion 🎙️ Lindsey Schultz, CEO of MRC Recruiting Host Lindsey Schultz and guest Gabriela Castro‑Smith (Trade in Motion) unpack North America's mining talent gap: retirements, shrinking engineering and trades pipelines, and the perception problem. They dig into real-world barriers—remote sites, dual-income households, childcare, commute/rosters—and why culture, leadership, and continuous upskilling beat pay alone. Gabriela outlines a playbook: put workforce planning on par with capital planning, partner early with colleges, modernize schedules, invest in training, and blend local teams with cross-border talent via USMCA pathways when needed. Listeners leave with practical steps to attract, retain, and re-skill talent without sacrificing momentum or safety. Our Promise: We aim to engage with the most creative minds in mining—from engineers and executives to environmentalists and geologists—to explore groundbreaking projects and pioneering innovations. Our discussions are designed not only to inform but to inspire action and empower our listeners to lead and innovate.
