EP 308: Mirror Neurons, Empathic Resonance, And Self Compassion

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

Mirror Neurons and Empathic Resonance are the scientific basis for empathy and compassion. When we see someone suffering - like watching someone stun their toe - the neurons in our brains are activated as though we stubbed our own toe. As we hold this energetic connection in our conscious awareness, we open ourselves to the benefit of the vitally important quality of self compassion. Because others - our kids, our friends, and everyone else with whom we come into contact- feel our pleasure and pain, self compassion - the relief of our own suffering - becomes an act of compassion for others. And this resonant loop happens the other way, too! If you’d like to know more about how this works, and for some really simple exercises to cultivate compassion for yourself and others in your life, email me: [email protected]
