EP 309: Meditation: The Practice of Non Doing

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

As my tee shirt says, meditation is not what you think. Really, meditation is about unplugging from the rush of thoughts and emotions that result from the daily hustle and bustle. I love to explain it using the metaphor of a snow globe: When we shake a snow globe, the little flakes swirl all around and make it impossible to see the scene inside. But if we place the snow globe down for a few minutes, all those flakes settle to the bottom and reveal a vivid scene. Well, our minds - with all the thoughts, emotions, and sensations of the body - are just like so many snow globes. And if we just sit still for a few minutes, the swirl of our thoughts and emotions settles and allows us to see, with vivid clarity, what’s really happening in our mind. Among many physical and mental benefits, this leads to emotional intelligence, which will serve us in virtually every aspect and area of our lives. And all we need to do is sit and be for a few minutes a day!!! Would you like to learn how easy this practice is? If so, please get in touch with me so I can explain it to you.
