The ego has one straightforward job. It is to keep you safe by keeping you where you are. It is not geographically keeping you where you are, but it's keeping you surrounded by circumstances and experiences on how you currently know them. It keeps you playing the game that you are already playing. The ego allows us to move forward or backward.
