Ep. 32 - Merril Hoge - Former NFL Player / ESPN Analyst / Cancer Survivor / Author / Speaker / Husband & Father

from Dad Up Podcast · host Bryan Ward

Well known former NFL player and former ESPN analyst, Merril Hoge made his childhood dream a reality when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played until 1993. He was Steelers Iron Man of the Year two years in a row and was named to the All-Madden team in 1989. He then played for one year with the Chicago Bears until he was forced to retire early due to Post-Concussion Syndrome. After he retired from the NFL, he joined ESPN as a football analyst and sideline reporter. He worked at ESPN for over 20 years. However, in 2003, he found himself in the toughest of his life when he was diagnosed with cancer. Merril took on chemo with the same tenacity that got him to the NFL. Now Merril loves spending time with his family, his kids and his grandkids. He is also an author, motivational speaker and soon will be working again with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Merril loved playing in the NFL and working at ESPN, but what he cherishes the most is being a dad. He used his Find A Way philosophy to become a better parent and to challenge his kids to take ownership of their lives. You won’t want to miss this episode!!
