It seems when times are good, we don't mind being defined as successful, the go-to-guy, or the GOAT – the greatest of all time. We don't see Michael Jordan brandishing his pair of three-peat national championship rings and defensively shouting into the camera, "basketball does not define me!" When times aren't good, however, it seems like we hear that phrase more. Maybe it's a broken relationship, a business that goes bankrupt, or a reputation that goes south. That's when we see a man resolving and even preaching to himself that set-backs don't define him. So, what defines a person? What is a person's identity? Is it only good times, and not bad times? And what does God have to do with those successes and set backs? Today on The Next Stage, we meet Steve Roskamp, a writer and professional therapist who racked up many wins and losses in his personal and professional life and recently suffered a set back that has caused him to understand the core of his identity that cannot be shaken.
