EP 324: How to See (And Regulate) The Cycle And Momentum of Our Emotions
from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns
Emotional regulation is one of the most valuable skills we can possess. Whether in parenting, in our work, in our social lives, or in our daily, anonymous interactions with others, emotional regulation can mean the difference between a moment of discomfort and an action that can cause permanent damage to a relationship. And this skill starts with non judging awareness. As we practice simply being present with our thoughts, emotions, and sensations, we develop a clear and accurate view of this process and the momentum it tends to build when left unchecked. This allows us to ‘see’ the first emotion that is usually very small and manageable before we throw logs onto the fire with our thoughts and sensations. And it all arises from the practice of just sitting still and allowing ourselves to see this process. If you’d like to learn more, please let me know.
