EP 327: Gone To The Dogs with Robert Raxter

Ball’s Stylish Hickory Nut Harry, House’s Lipper, Rock River Sackett, Jr., Rat Attack, Schmersal’s Stylish Queen, Logan’s Wild Clover and of course, Hardwood Bozo all appear, and some more than once, in Mojo’s five-generation pedigree, dogs that made the hound one of the most popular stud dogs in the history of the raccoon-hunting sport.. Robert Raxter of Brevard, North Carolina is the man responsible for purchasing Mojo as a pup seventeen years ago, for training that pup and for winning the 2008 PKC Spring Super Stakes with him before selling half interest in the legendary hound to Scott Engle as a three-year old.   Mojo would win the 2009 Spring Super Stakes and the 2009 UKC Triple Crown under the ownership of Engle and his partner, the late J.C. Ellis.Raxter is widely recognized as a hound man of the first order, a superb pup trainer, and of course for the big-winning hounds that have eaten his feed.  In this interview, Steve explores the methods that made Raxter and his Boogar Hollow Walkers famous.  It’s a candid interview in which Raxter openly discusses his experiences in a sport that he has now set aside in favor of squirrel hunting with mountain cur/feist crossed dogs, dogs that he has owned and bred for twenty years. Steve rates this as one of his all-time favorite interviews.  See if you agree.    We would like to thank those who support this podcast.
