If there is one thing about DJ POOLHOUSE, it is that he knows a hit when he hears one. And “ 2 LIVE CREW ” by FKAGOLDPONY is a HIT record. The track appears on their debut EP titled 1’s, released early this summer. Erik Harris (of Memorycult, Vampire Disco Club) and his brother Alex’s side project called FKAGOLDPONY suddenly became a Poolhouse obsession. From the syrupy, detached effervescence of “HEMINGWAY GIRL” to the plunderous emotional depths of “Luv RN,” FKAGOLDPONY’s work represented a refreshing range of styles that blended a straightforward pop sensibility with an esoteric, experimental flair. The Pony boys’ effortless style was very playful on the A-side, and surprisingly emotional on the flip. Each cut from 1’s is a banger. The songs are all distinct and hint at entirely different possibilities in the direction of their sound, yet work together seamlessly as a vibrant collection representing what the FKAGOLDPONY project was about. After some initial setbacks (band drama, censorship regime, etc.), Poolhouse was thrilled to sit down with Erik last week to speak with the musical genius & co-creator of this beloved release.
