EP 335: Empathic Resonance And It's Impact on Trust And Our Relationships

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

Why is it important to ‘know’ our emotions? When we experience each other as human beings - whether in business or social settings, or in the parent/child or spousal relationship - there are two different ways we experience each other: We have our cognitive experience, what we understand, our opinions, or discernment, etc. And then we have our limbic experience. That is to say, our emotional and empathic experience of one another. This limbic level of our experience creates what is called empathic resonance. Beyond our consciousness, we FEEL each other. Literally, we feel one another in our own bodies. This feeling is the basis of trust or mistrust for one another. And it has far reaching impacts in every interaction in our lives... especially between parents and their children. If you’d like to learn more about this dynamic, and about some simple practices you can do to regulate the empathic resonance you emit, comment below or send me a DM.
