EP 337: Pausing And Responding

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

In almost every circumstance in parenting, we don’t need to immediately react to what our kids might have done. In fact, reaction will almost ALWAYS end up causing more problems than it solves. And it will create emotions of fear, guilt, and shame that will prevent us all from learning and growing through our experience. It will also push our children away from us. On the other hand, pausing for a moment, a minute, or even an hour, allows us to investigate and challenge our thoughts, emotions, and sensations and come up with creative solutions that draw our child in, create learning opportunities, and avoid the emotions of trauma. Would you like to learn how to pause?
