Ep 34 Kevin Scarce On Leadership Learnings At Sea, Commercialising Defence, The Case For Nuclear

from Rooster Radio - Stories & Insights from Entrepreneurs and Leaders in Business, Health, Tech & More · host Apiro Media

As a teenager, Kevin Scarce lacked discipline, motivation and passion. A far cry from the man who would become a top Navy official, the 34th Governor of South Australia, business leader and University Chancellor. Kevin was pushed into the Royal Australian Navy College by his father. He intended to cruise through his studies but the threat of being thrown out of the college was a much needed wake up call. He truly came of age during the Vietnam War, where the Navy exposed him to the best and worst of leadership. Kevin shares what he learned about teams and people at sea. While he didn't actively pursue high ranking positions promotion naturally followed. Kevin's passion for the job, and commitment to ongoing learning, led to a strong understanding of Defence commercialisation. This would open up his world beyond the military, where he would earn the respect of both business and government. After retiring as South Australia's Governor, Kevin recently headed up South Australia's Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission. He puts talks about the case for Nuclear, the community response, and whether this is a "silver bullet" for the SA economy. In his role as the University of Adelaide's Chancellor, Kevin also sees a bright future for education. With such a diverse and successful career, find out how Kevin Scarce learned, led, adapted and evolved. Rooster Radio with Rear Admiral the Honourable Kevin Scarce AC CSC RAN (Rtd).
