Hello, my name is Diane Zelmanovich. I am a 51 year old Vietnamese American. When I was 3 years old, my family escaped from Vietnam and was fortunate to be sponsored by a family in Colorado Springs. After several months living with our sponsors, we moved to Oakland, California as my dad landed a job here. I graduated from UC Berkeley and I currently work for a Software Company. I love animals especially cats. Since I do not have any children, my cats are my children, I have five of them: Gingerella, Purrcules, Daisy, Cesar, and currently nurturing a cat that my brother Tony Nguyen found at a gas station whom he named Buckles. I also love to sketch and draw. In 2019, my life changed when my husband passed away. He was only 60 years old. Three days before he passed, he whispered into my ears and encouraged me to get myself back into health as he didn’t wanted me to be like him, he died of many complications which could have been prevented by keeping healthy and exercising. With his encouragement, I have been on a journey to get my health and life back to order. I am so fortunate to have a little brother who has helped me by pushing me to run. Tony has been there for me every step of the way. In 2022, I participated in a program called Streaking from my favorite racing company called Brazing Racing. For one year, a participant is required to either run or volunteer at each race. The reward is getting a bib number that is strictly mine, #292. In May 2023, I will be doing a Race called the Pigtails Challenge running the 50K.
