Ep. 35: Building Ashley Cain Into The Ultraman - Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi

from Being Human · host Arun Wagle

In this episode of the Being Human podcast I sat down with Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi (@irondoctorhaz). Over the past 3 months @mrashleycain has ran the length of the UK, cycled the length of the UK, and kayaked the length of the UK. He has been completing this challenge to raise money for @theazayliafoundation - the charity he founded in honour and memory of his daughter Azaylia, to fight against childhood cancer. He will officially be finishing ‘ULTRAMAN’ at John O’Groats this weekend, Saturday 20th July. When he does, he will be the first man in history to ever do so. Dr Haz has been Ashley’s coach for ULTRAMAN. He devised the training programme and structure of the challenge, that has enabled Ashley to be able to complete this monumental feat. In this conversation we dived deep into Ashley’s training, the challenge itself, and everything behind it from Haz’s end. Haz shared: - What he initially thought Ashley’s chances of success were for completing the challenge. - The training programme Ashley underwent in the months leading up to the challenge. - What has happened to Ashley’s body over the past 3 months during ULTRAMAN that has enabled him to continue on to complete it. - How to fuel yourself for endurance challenges to optimise performance and prevent injuries. And a whole lot more. I thoroughly enjoyed nerding out with Haz on all the physiology behind Ash and ULTRAMAN. There is tons of wisdom and knowledge shared throughout the entirety of this episode. I do not doubt you will find value and enjoy the conversation. Head over to @mrashleycain and @theazayliafoundation to take a look at what Ash has accomplished, the cause it is all in aid of, and to make a donation towards the fight against childhood cancer.
