Ep. 36: Saving Sharp Park with Bo Links

from Nice Grass Nice People · host Suave Golf

Bo Links is the co-founder of the San Francisco Public Golf Alliance. Bo and his colleague Richard Harris founded the San Francisco Public Golf Alliance to protect public golf in San Francisco, and for the past 10 years, they have been leading the fight to keep Sharp Park Golf Course open, despite efforts from various environmental groups to close the seaside links. Sharp Park was designed in 1932 by Alister MacKenzie, and at one time was labeled "The poor man's Cypress Point." Bo has been playing Sharp Park since the 1960's and is one of the course's greatest historians. After a 10+ year long legal battle, Sharp Park was designated as a “Historic Resource Property” under the California Environmental Quality Act, and now the SFPGA's next mission is to restore as much of the original Alister MacKenzie design as possible. Bo and host Kyle Surlow discuss what the journey has been like up to this point, and what will happen to Sharp Park going forward.
