Ep 397: What REALLY Happened This Year?

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

At this time of year, it is very common and even natural to reflect on the past year of our lives. But this activity can become a trap that leaves us feeling inadequate and opening the door to depression, anxiety, and stress. Simply understanding the reasons for this trap is often enough to allow us to avoid the trap altogether! Here are two reasons why we might feel this downer as we reflect on the past year: First, doing this process unconsciously promotes inaccuracy and confusion. This leads to... Second, as we look back on our lives and experiences, the negativity bias - this implicit bias that directs us to notice the negative aspects about 3x more than the positive aspects of our experience - gives us a false sense of failure. Would you like to engage in the natural process of reflection and taking stock without falling into the depression, anxiety, and stress I describe above?
