EP 4 - An NPO that doesn't want to exist in 10 years... for all the right reasons.

from Snapped · host Snapped Agency

In this episode of the podcast, we celebrate women's month with an effervescent energy in the NPO space, Thobile Chittenden. She is the  CEO of The Makers Valley Partnership, a newly-established non-profit organisation that supports progressive and creative change-making activities in the east of Johannesburg. In Episode 4 she talks to us about her approach to helping communities and her own growth as a person. One of the striking thoughts that came across in this talk was how she views the success of an NPO in how long it takes them to make themselves redundant. Essentially saying that if they do their work well enough then there would be little need for them to exist in the current form,  which will ultimately mean they can move on to a new project and solve other challenges. Her open, honest and articulate interpretation of how she has grown as an individual, and now leader of a space such as Makers Valley, highlights so deeply how opportunity alone is not enough to succeed. Being willing to work at said opportunity is even more critical and creating that opportunity for someone else is baked into her DNA. If you would like to learn more about their approach to community-centered upliftment then have a peek at their website: https://www.makersvalley.org.za @makersvalley.jozi
