On this episode of The Food Allergy Talk Podcast, Lisa Horne interviews her son, Stetson, a 14-year-old teen with food allergies. Stetson was anaphylactic to peanuts and shellfish since he was just a baby. In the past 6-8 months of this podcast interview Stetson began having symptoms that appeared at first glance to perhaps mimic potential Celiac, Crohn's and Colitis, IBS or other potential digestive issues. We had no idea that what was lurking behind these symptoms were added anaphylactic food allergies that appeared over a decade since his original diagnosis. What was even more confusing is that they were similar to food allergies by way of symptom, but also appeared to be other issues. Listen into our experience detailed in hindsight to see what we learned as we navigated this new terrain, as well as the feelings and emotions that can go along with a new food allergy diagnosis. While Stetson has had anaphylactic food allergies since he was a toddler, Stetson is much more than his food allergy. He is a video gamer, plays both piano and guitar, plays golf, and has recently taken up archery. There may be some things that Stetson cannot eat, but he hasn't let his food allergies top him from living and enjoying life.
