Ep 4: The Conversation That Could Have Ended Our Friendship: Healing Sisterhood Wounds, Owning Our Triggers + Staying Fully Expressed with Nina Mcdonald

from BOLDLY ALIVE · host Courtney Bussard

Send us Fan Mail What if getting triggered by someone isn’t always a sign that the relationship is wrong… but an invitation to go deeper? In this episode, I’m joined by my dear friend Nina Mcdonald , and we’re sharing the initiating story of a moment between us that could have created a rupture in our friendship. I got triggered by Nina’s full expression - and instead of making her wrong for what came up in me, I had to get really honest about the old wounds, comparison, and stories that were actually being activated. And when I brought it to Nina, it activated something in her too: a lifelong wound around being “too much” and feeling like she needed to dim herself so other women could feel comfortable. What followed was days of honest conversation that ultimately brought us closer. We talk about healing sisterhood wounds, owning our triggers instead of projecting them onto other people, navigating conflict with curiosity, and learning how to stay connected without asking either person to abandon or diminish themselves. And because this is Boldly Alive, we also go way beyond friendship. We get into dance, embodiment, grief, heartbreak, pleasure, expression, and what it means to actually let yourself experience the full fucking range of being human. Maybe being triggered doesn’t always have to create distance. Maybe sometimes, when we’re willing to own what’s ours and stay in the conversation, it can become the doorway to a deeper relationship.
