Ep. 44 The Murder of William Desmond Taylor and the Ghost of Alice Riley

Join us for another spooky episode! Coincidentally both of our stories involve Ireland. William Desmond Taylor was born William Cunningham Deane-Tanne in Carlow, Ireland. He ventured out to Hollywood in 1912 to become a silent film actor and director. His body was found on the living room floor of his bungalow on February 2, 1922. This murder is a regular whodunnit. Meet a list of suspects who all hold a motive for wanting to see William dead. This includes actresses with opium addictions, infatuated girlfriends, an overbearing momager, and a criminal property manager. Who would have been capable of committing a murder in cold blood?  In this week's episode Sandra talks about the Ghost of Alice Riley from Savannah, Georgia. Alice Riley escaped the Irish Famine by coming over to Georgia as an indentured servant at the age of 15 in 1733. Supposedly her and her husband Richard White murdered their master William Wise after being tormented by him. Both Richard White and Alice Riley were found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging. Richard was hanged quickly after being caught, but Alice was pregnant and could not be killed until after the baby was born. Legend has it that today Alice Riley can be seen walking around Wright Square asking people if they have seen her baby.
