This allowed them to enter Japan, escape death, and settle in Australia; hundreds of her other relatives were murdered in concentration camps.  A graphic designer and then copywriter, Royal spent thirty years in advertising in Australia and the United States working on national and multinational accounts. The Star on the Grave is her first novel. It began its life as a movie script and segued to a book during Covid.
