EP 464: Cognitive Dissonance

from Showing Up To Life · host Art Burns

The term ‘Cognitive Dissonance’ applies to a contradiction between a belief or thought we might have, and information we learn that challenges these thoughts and beliefs. In today’s episode, I talk about what cognitive dissonance looks like in our lives, how we can resolve it in a healthy way, and how it relates to mindfulness. Many of our implicit biases are at play in cognitive dissonance, with the confirmation bias being the most pronounced. And cognitive dissonance is something that does come up during the journey into mindfulness. As we deepen our awareness, we start to see all the implicit and unconscious patterns we’ve operated from for our whole lives. This is fertile ground for cognitive dissonance, and I’m so happy you are learning about it here!
