Ep 49: Collaboration with the Professionals in Your Child’s Life: Refuting the Lies of Your Abuser
from The Rising Beyond Podcast
You learn that your high-conflict co-parent has shared lies with the school or your child’s therapist. You fear that these will be believed automatically and you panic. How do I defend myself now?It is hard knowing that your narcissistic ex-partner will try to take control of the narrative in every situation they can and that you will have to find a way to defend yourself when the professional they lied to carries a lot of weight in your child’s life. So what can you do?Manage your expectations: It is likely they will build a relationship with these professionals and lie about you.Maintain composure: Stay calm, and manage your NS to feel prepared when discussing the issue with these professionals. Emotional reactions may hinder effective communication and until they can see more of your ex’s patterns they might mistake for the false narratives of your ex.Gather evidence: Collect any evidence that refutes the lies being spread, such as emails, text messages, or other documentation.Request time with them: Schedule a meeting with the relevant professional to address the situation. Provide them with the opportunity to hear your side of the story.Focus on facts and stay on topic: Clearly and objectively state the facts, emphasizing the impact the false information may have on your child's well-being.Be cooperative: Show your willingness to collaborate with this person to ensure your child's best interests are protected.Maintain open communication: Establish an open line of communication to address any concerns promptly. Regularly update them on the situation's progress and maintain a positive working relationship.Seek legal advice if necessary: If the situation persists or escalates, consult with a family law attorney who can guide you on potential legal actions or steps to protect your rights and your child's well-being.Throughout this whole process, you are showing consistency, you are showing up, and are maintaining a focus on your child's best interests. Your words match your actions. You show your concern and then you do what a concerned parent does. And remember, the primary focus should always be on your child's well-being and safety. Please leave us a review or rating and follow/subscribe to the show.
