EP. 49 | MEET MY MOM | overcoming hardships, being a strong woman, choosing yourself, and never giving up

from Livfiit Listens

We have another podcast guest! Today we're sitting down with my beloved mother and having a really raw, vulnerable conversation about some of the major hardships she went through in life, beginning with childhood trauma, and how she overcame them by never giving up and eventually embarking on a journey of self exploration. She began with expressing how emotional intelligence and awareness was never something emphasized during childhood, which led to the absence of healthy coping mechanisms and proper regulation as an adult. In the second half of the epi, we dive into when she realized the victim mentality was keeping her stuck and so she decided to choose herself and create a life she was actually happy with by leaving everything behind and moving across the country to start new at 60 years old. At the end, we tap into some things that helped strengthen our mother daughter relationship. She the epitome of what it means to be a strong woman and to never give up until the buzzer goes off. I love you so much mother, thank you for sharing your inspiring story with us! . THE LIVFIIT COSTA RICA RETREAT // https://trips.trovatrip.com/trips/costa-rica-with-olivia-catania-jun-2023 . A Beautiful Mind Dr Selena Fisk What image comes to mind when you think about someone living with neuro distinction? Is it that it is an illness that can be cured? or that neurodistinct people struggle to hold down a job? Or that people identifying with the same 'labels' require the same supports? Even though we’re hearing more and more about neuro distinction, many ‘go-to’ stereotypes remain, which aren’t super helpful if you’ve just been diagnosed or are wondering how to help someone who has. A Beautiful Mind takes you way beyond the stereotypes and into the minds and stories of people living with neurodistinctions. Data storyteller Dr Selena Fisk meets people with a diagnosis, a mental health condition or an addiction who explain what it’s like to live with these labels, and share the path they're on as they navigate workplaces and communities who struggle to know how to best support them.
