We get into how it feels being the only woman, and sometimes the only person of color in white male dominated spaces. We discuss her journey of being a single mom in that “Rap Life”, getting her PH.D, getting tenure at the University of Alabama then leaving that tenure to pursue her dream of directing again. She shares how she met Ava DurVernay during “Rap Life” and how she was later, impacted by the Ava effect.
