Ep.54 Getting out of the hamster wheel - from anesthesiologist to acupuncturist - Julie Schmalz, M.D.

from The Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Podcast · host Benjamin Greene, MHS, Lic, D.O. and Jordan Little, DO

Two years into residency she felt like she was on the medical hamster wheel, she was not as satisfied and fulfilled with her profession as she hoped on that first day of medical school. Management was pushing for quicker turnover times in surgery, hurrying her while taking care of patients with delicate health. When it became too much she decided to take her career satisfaction into her own hands, running marathons and taking extracurricular courses in medical acupuncture, integrative medicine and contemplative medicine. Today she owns her own integrative medicine acupuncture practice. Enjoy my conversation with Dr. Julie Schmalz a fellow marathon runner, a courageous person and one who is living life to the fullest.
