Ep 54: Where You’re Holding Tension | A Somatic Reset for Stress

from Journey of You · host Devin, Chris & Felicia

What if the tension in your shoulders, your jaw, your belly… is actually your body asking to feel safe enough to be?In this powerful solo episode of the Journey of You podcast, Felicia shares a deeply personal reflection from her time in Mexico with co-host Devin DeGreif—and how the ocean became a mirror for the hidden anxiety and protection she carries in her body. Through stories of walking barefoot on sand, learning to float in powerful waves, and confronting the urge to “be productive,” this episode opens a compassionate doorway into body awareness and healing. We explore how tension isn’t random. It often carries unconscious beliefs about safety, worthiness, and productivity. From clenching the shoulders to bracing the pelvis to tightening the stomach, Felicia reveals how the sympathetic nervous system—our fight, flight, freeze, or fawn response—can quietly shape our daily experience. This is a conversation about:~Recognizing where you hold stress in the body~Understanding the nervous system and emotional safety~Releasing the belief that you must “do” to be worthy~Practicing somatic awareness to soften and expandThrough a guided somatic body scan and gentle movement practice, you’re invited into real-time nervous system regulation—a simple yet profound way to reconnect with your inherent joy.Because joy isn’t something we chase. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
