Later, Danielle tells a gruesome and disturbing story. Carl Tanzler was a doctor who became obsessed with a patient suffering from tuberculosis. Despite Tanzler's lack of medical training in treating tuberculosis, he was determined to treat Maria. His homemade tonics were unable to save Maria, and she ultimately died.
