Ep 58 Dorothy Sayers | Why Work?

from The Work Ethic · host jon dengler

This is an audio reading of the brilliant essay "Why Work?" by Dorothy Sayers. This has been such a meaningful essay to me and my own understanding of work and our relationship with it. The essay was written during the 2nd world war and offers such a powerful challenge to the concept of work in light of the changes made in our country during the war. While this episode is not like the others in that it is a reading of her material rather than an interview format, I think this might be one of the most important of all episodes in terms of an explicit articulation of some of the most basic premises of the show. I hope you find it as powerful and impactful as I have. For those who would like to read the essay, it can be found here: https://tnl.org/wp-content/uploads/Why-Work-Dorothy-Sayers.pdf
