Ep. 59 - PBC - 1 Peter 1:10-21 Superheroes vs. the Savior, Comics vs. the Church
from St. Peter's Helenville · host Pastor Titus
There are a strange number of parallels between the lore of warriors and superheroes, comic books and the reality of God's story in the Bible. Our superheroes often imitate and resemble what Jesus is for us, a Savior, who somehow conquers the darkness and even death to save the people who cannot save themselves. In the same way, the comic book sets up a world that is dark and full of sinister enemies that prey on the lowly people. Yet, there is a happy ending as good triumphs over evil. However, the hero is still flawed in our versions. He isn't perfect. However, Jesus is perfect. Therefore, he looks different than what we could come up with. He had to suffer and die. He was weak and willing to be killed by evil men SO THAT he could carry out God's plan for the world. This was the real salvation story. Tune in for more! Pastor Gunnar Ledermann & Pastor Titus Buelow continue their journey of reading the People's Bible Commentaries chapter by chapter, book by book. As they read each section of commentary, they give their personal reflections and comments for you to ruminate on and use as a springboard for your own personal study and growth as a child of God. May this be a blessing to you as you Bible Study. Godspeed! You can find the People's Bible Commentaries here for purchase or download: https://online.nph.net/books/nph-series/the-peoples-bible
