Ep. 59: Tending to the Parts of Me
from Wild Simplicity · host Anna Day
I return to the podcast after a three-week break and found myself reflecting on how easily I create rules around how things “should” be done. Without my usual setup, I noticed the resistance to doing it more simply and chose to show up anyway, imperfectly, messily, and in the midst of real life. In this episode I share how even something small, like a mouth ulcer, can impact my mood, sleep, and patience, and how this, alongside the Easter holidays, leaves me feeling pulled in many directions, between motherhood, work, and caring for myself. There is a part of me telling me I am dropping all the balls, that I am not doing anything well, and I began to recognise that voice as just one part of me, not the whole truth.I talk about parts work and how powerful it is to relate to myself in this way. I notice a wounded part of me being activated, the part that worries I have said something wrong or made a mistake, and instead of letting it spiral, I chose to tend to it with compassion. By bringing in a more grounded, steady part of myself to hold that vulnerability, the anxiety softened much more quickly than it would have in the past. This episode is really an invitation to remember that we are made up of many parts, all valid and worthy, and that no single part defines us. Even in the mess and the overwhelm, there is an opportunity to meet ourselves with care, to hold it all, and to return to a sense of simplicity and self-trust.
