EP 6 - Work-Life Balance: Why having a life outside of work works to everyone’s favor (Sunday Shot)

from From Lemons to Limoncello · host Lisa Marie DeSanto

As someone who’s always been a high achiever and dedicated employee, I had a lot to think about when I was recently laid off from a company where the appreciation for each other had been so mutual. My story isn't unique: so many employees prioritize their jobs, over working themselves into exhaustion - only to find that volume losses, automation, or other disruptive forces are forcing them into unemployment anyway. It all got me thinking about the importance of finding work-life balance when it comes to our health and our happiness — in and outside of the workplace. Toxic productivity, burnout, and workplace trauma are running rampant. A recent Gallup poll has shown that levels of office stress and burnout are at an all time high, globally — and have been rising steadily for more than 10 years. But employees aren’t the only ones suffering; when employees are burnt out, productivity also goes down, which ends up negatively impacting businesses in the long-run.  So what should we be mindful of in our personal and work lives to make sure we don’t become a part of the growing statistic? How can we continue to give our best at work when demands are so high? How can we value ourselves when companies make us feel so disposable? And how can we be sure to have an identity outside of work so that, when we do lose a job, we still feel a sense of purpose? In this Sunday Shot episode we talk about the importance of work-life balance and why having a life outside of work and setting boundaries benefits you - AND the employer you're working for.  This episode is a Sunday Shot: a short and sweet solo episode with a runtime of approximately 10 - 20 minutes.  Additional Resources: Gallup: State of the Global Workplace: 2023 Report Trades Union Congress: “Gruelling” work intensity a growing problem in “burnt out Britain”, new TUC report shows More About Lisa Marie: To learn more about Lisa Marie, get more content, or schedule a one-on-one coaching session, visit her website at: www.lisamarieconnections.com or her contact page, at: www.lisamarieconnections.com/connect Follow her on Instagram: @lisamarieconnections AFTER THE EPISODE: Love the podcast?
