In this episode, I chat with Dr. Fred Bagares, a Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation physician and the founder of MSK Direct. Dr. Bagares shares his self-care journey through a tipping point that began with chest pain that had no identifiable cause. As a busy physician with a tendency to keep pushing through, this chest pain became his body’s way of telling him that something needed to change.   This experience, combined with a family medical emergency, led Dr. Bagares to step out of the traditional insurance-based healthcare model to create his own practice. He reveals how years of journaling laid the foundation for this transition and emphasizes the importance of protecting his own self-care time to maintain empathy for his patients and family. By regularly checking in with himself and asking, "Do I need more of this right now, or do I need less of this?" he is now establishing healthier boundaries.   Together, we explore how our paths are similar in making significant life decisions without knowing the exact outcome but trusting it was time to take the next step.
