EP 64: Blessed and Broken with Maria Jacobs

On this episode of Jazz Flyte, Darrell reconnects with Maria Jacobs, a powerful voice in both jazz and Christian music, and a passionate educator. Born of Syrian Lebanese and Armenian descent, Maria’s life journey is one of resilience and faith. She is the author of Tell Them About Me, a Christian testimony that chronicles her triumphant journey through Bipolar Disorder, Alopecia, and numerous personal challenges—all overcome through faith in Jesus Christ. Maria shares her insights into her role as a vocal professor at Kent State University, the joy of teaching middle school music, and the fulfillment she finds in shaping the lives of young musicians. Maria and Darrell dive into the making of her upcoming Christian album, set for release in 2025, and explore her creative process behind songs like “Blessed and Broken.” She speaks about the importance of authenticity as she navigates between jazz and Christian music, her experiences performing at venues in Cleveland, and the realities of being an independent artist. Maria’s faith shines through as she talks about her purpose-driven career, creating music that uplifts and inspires. She also discusses her song “Every Day is Christmas” and the magic of holiday music. This conversation is filled with raw honesty, inspiration, and the healing power of music.
