As of Friday, May 10, 2024, the people of the Parkland Community Association in Parkland, Washington have successfully saved Parkland School and are turning it into a community center in the center of the community. To celebrate, Feliks Banel's guests on this encore episode of CASCADE OF HISTORY – originally broadcast LIVE across the street from Parkland School - include Wendy Freeman and Phil Edlund, organizers with the group Save Our Historic Parkland School; James Hester, member of the final sixth grade class at the school who spoke out as an 11-year-old in 1981 in favor of saving the school; Tono Sablan of BlueZones Parkland-Spanaway; Nick Biermann of Save The Ryan House (in nearby Sumner, WA); local performer Gunnar Johnson; and musical guests Murdre of Crowes, featuring Elizabeth Johnson on vocals and Tim Hatch on guitar and vocals. Audience members Ruth, Dave and Pierce County Councilmember Jani Hitchen also spoke during the program. This LIVE broadcast of CASCADE OF HISTORY was originally presented at 8pm Pacific Standard Time on Sunday, January 28, 2024 via SPACE 101.1 FM and streaming live via space101fm.org from Thompson Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland, Washington.
