Ep 67: Curating Curriculum for Your Own Events

from The Speak to Scale Podcast

I'm so excited that you're here because today I get to nerd-out about crafting curriculum, which sounds boring but is a lot of fun for me! If you're planning to host your own event later this year or in the near future, this is for you. If you aren't, don't worry! This is still going to be value-added content for you. If you're somebody who wants to host an intimate retreat, a one day workshop or anything where you are bringing people together and sharing some valuable content, make sure you tune in! I'm even going to let you in on a little bit of the behind the scenes of how I do this for my own clients. If you loved this episode and it motivated you to add speaking to your business, please take the time to leave me some positive feedback on iTunes. I'd also love to hear about your biggest takeaway. Take a screenshot of you listening on your device, post it to your Instagram Stories and tag us @thecreativespeakerpodcast.   Episode takeaways you don't want to miss: You don't need all the "extras" when curating your own event. Your curriculum should be enough on its own We need to be able to show our audience where they are right now. Let them know we understand them, show them what's possible, and really just paved the path for where it is we're going to go together The first step on curating your curriculum is surveying your audience about their needs so that you can get the insight you need to serve them properly Next you need to find out what YOU need or want from the event Are you selling seats to a higher level program? Maybe a membership community? Maybe you just want to get your clients/audience a clear win or help them achieve a goal rather than move them to another service you offer Follow these steps in this order before you go any further because if you focus on the end goal first you will tend to piecemeal your content together in a way that can be really confusing to your audience. Build in as much white space as you can in your curriculum. By touching on too many points you can throw off the flow of your event. Your audience wants time to connect with you and the other participants to fully digest what they're learning. Your audience will appreciate the opportunity to connect and grow alongside of you rather than just in the main presentation For full show notes and links, visit: http://www.thepublicspeakingstrategist.com/shownotes/067
