Here at WOAF we’re intimately familiar with the annual (interpretive) dance of ADHDers buying gifts for the holidays: we think about starting, tell ourselves we have plenty of time, then suddenly it’s somehow two days before Christmas and we’re frantically looking up mall closing times in a panic. “Next year I’ll definitely get on top of things and start super early, no way I’m making this mistake again,” we tell ourselves with a level of delusional optimism only ADHDers can achieve--we’re so quirky.    This episode we’re hoping to help you (and ourselves) break free from this ADHD-fueled Groundhog Day holiday nightmare with some insights into why ADHDers have difficulty with gift-planning and overspending, how to work on impulsivity, and a few easy ways to shop responsibly. We also share our best ADHD gift ideas, though Kristin goes off the rails a bit when the subject of toe socks comes up.    In Hobby Collectors, we go through a range of easy-to-pick-up hobbies that are great for cranking out homemade gifts if shopping isn’t your style and/or your stick drawings are shit. On top of all our great advice, we find plenty of time to giggle about faux-bleeding street children and classic toothpaste pranks. Whether you’re braving the stores, planning a poignant interpretive dance to a Shel Silverstein poem, or something in between, this is your sign to start NOW! But, like, after you listen to our episode preferably.   Resources ADDitude magazine article: How to hit pause on ADHD impulsivity   Consumerism TikToks: @profsarahgrace; @tallpsychology

VideoDestruct Podcast VideoDestruct Our weekly podcast where we play a video game and then we talk about it! Hoss (one of our hosts) has a weird encyclopedic knowledge of linking six degrees of any video game developer and we like to break down the historical and cultural significance of a classic or modern game and it’s impact on the video game industry. Explicit That Weird Ass Podcast! Natalie and Maggie Welcome to That Weird Ass Podcast! (TWAP for short.) We honestly have no idea what we're doing, but join us on this wild ride. We talk about random things each episode, so hopefully you won't get bored. If you're starting with our first episode, buckle up because it's gonna be one hell of a bumpy ride! Explicit Nearly Qualified Abpor - Rob Musings of a reclusive video game nerd working in telco who typically ends up far too deep down the rabbit hole. I wanted to share a vehicle for developing my understanding of myself, over-committing to new things and how we fit into a weird cosmic jigsaw puzzle when all the pieces keep changing their sides. I marry my experience in video games with my background in psychology, automation and my career in corporate environments to produce thoughtful and relevant commentary. Explicit Galaktacus Jim Kettner, John Mihaly, and Scott Brown The name Galaktacus originates from a youthful mispronunciation of a classic comic book character best known for eating planets. Before all of the blockbuster film franchises and the non-stop spoiler-filled internet coverage there was limited space to openly discuss such topics let alone their proper pronunciations. ("Is it Mag-neato or Mag-net-o?") So with that in mind, what started as a long-running, inside joke has now become a word that best defines the spirit of this podcast—looking at comic books, sci-fi, film, television, music, literature and gaming from the perspective of individuals who have grown up in this evolving "nerd culture" and are amazed by the ways in which it has taken over the mainstream. Galaktacus attempts to eschew that "angry nerd" character and celebrate the good, the bad and the weird that comes along with this current golden age of pop culture. So let the devouring begin!
