There are many horrific consequences of domestic violence and narcissistic abuse.  But I think that this one is probably the most damaging.  During the course of your relationship, your autonomy is systematically taken away from you, which prevents you from being able to leave but even worse it prevents you from living a full and whole life on your terms.In this episode I am going to share the ways in which your autonomy has been stripped away from you by your abuser and some steps that you can take to start the process of rebuilding your trust and independence so you can fully heal.How is autonomy taken from you during an abusive relationship?Isolation-not allowing people to mirror your strengths backGaslighting-questioning your reality, doubting self, doubting your choicesLabeling and name-calling i.e. you are irresponsible with moneyFinancial abuse/control - making you dependent on them for everythingEmotional manipulation of you and the people around youBy the larger systems i.e. the family court system or child protective servicesSo what can you do?Re-evaluate or rediscover your values and who you are as a person.  This will help you build trust with yourself and trust is the key to making decisions.Increasing your safe inner circle of supportLearning to set and hold boundariesGain financial freedom and independenceTherapy, trauma work, emotional healing, mindfulness, etc.Autonomy is extremely important to regain as you heal.  And this is one of the most difficult parts of the process.
